Radio Mercury 92.1 FM is owned and operated by Mercury International Betting Company (SL) Limited, which is Sierra Leone’s leading Sports Betting and Lottery Company. It started Broadcast Operations upon its officially launching on the 19th of December 2011 by the then Minister of Information and Communication Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo. The Initial premises of the Radio were on No.18 Howe Street in Central Business District of Sierra Leone’s Capital City Freetown. Since its creation, Radio Mercury has remained a credible source of information all through the years, training and equipping some of the best sports commentators and analysts in the country. The station is now regarded as one of Sierra Leone’s premier entertainment radio stations.

Radio Mercury covers a wide array of interesting programmes, among some of its daily barrage of random issues are sports betting, lifestyles, love-stories, socio-cultural and national economic and domestic policies.  The station has carved out an enviable niche for itself within the media landscape of Sierra Leone. It remains one of the foremost and dependable broadcasting entities for live updates and debates on national and international sporting events. Radio Mercury FM92.1 is respected for its unblemished record in sports reportage and activities within both community and national sports organizations. Radio Mercury is versed in the production and broadcasting of programmes within the genre of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with education, health, agriculture being at the zenith in the cadre of that spectrum. Radio Mercury’s credibility has resulted in the issuance of a variety of accolades presented by various organizations as a sign of admiration and appreciation of its staff members who continue to mesmerize listeners.

Radio Mercury has a rich demographic reach; with an avalanche of mainly adult contents that blend richly with betting paraphernalia, vis-à-vis, educational materials of the types of games and the daily schedules of draw times Mercury International. These developments have successfully aroused and sustained the interests of young adults, the aged, and men and women of various social standpoints.

The station also provides airtime for minority groups who are setting pace and blazing trails in their communities. This is manifested through our special programmes for women sports and in different walks of life. We also provide free airtime for programmes aimed at creating opportunities for the girl-child as displayed in our religious broadcast of the Kara-Kura Connection series, produced by Purposeful, a girl-child protection and promotion organization.

Although Radio Mercury Broadcasts from its Freetown Studios, its signals are received all over Sierra Leone with recent reports indicating receipt of our signals such as Liberia in the East and Southeastern parts and Guinea in the North, North West and North East of Sierra Leone.

Within the past decade, Radio Mercury has metamorphosed from an entity that strictly broadcasts through FM Transmission, to one with a commanding social media presence on cyber space via the Radio Mercury Website and Radio Garden. The Radio also does Social Media Broadcasts via Facebook-Live Application through which it screens some of its very interesting primetime programmes. Having been established to play a complimentary role in the betting activities of Mercury International, the radio is now renowned for its endowment of personnel who possess a depth of knowledge in football and other areas of entertainment. It has to be said that the station has grown into one hosting the finest presenters and Disc Jockeys in the country.

At the moment, there is a huge expectation that the Radio will soon be able to host its own television station for more exciting programmes that may yield better and greater interface with listeners and potential viewers.

Radio Mercury is staffed by a dynamic crew of Talented Broadcasters consisting a management team that comprises the Managing Director of Mercury International at the apex, a Broadcast Media Consultant, a Manager and a Deputy Manager. A total of about 20 staff mark the overall crew of the station.
